Costa Cálida

The Costa Calida covers approximately 250 kms of coastline from El Mojon down to Aguilas in the south.

With the mild climate in the winter and averaging 320 days per year of sunshine this area is known as the market garden of Spain due to its vast production of fruit and vegetables grown here.  It is one of the most popular areas in Spain for the exportation of fruit and vegetables.  When driving around the area it is amazing to see the vast areas of orange, lemon and olive trees along with fields full of lettuces, carrots, artichokes, cauliflowers and many more.

The region is well known for its variety of fresh fish and seafood which is served in many of the local  restaurants and tapas bars.

The Mar Menor part of the coastline is a large saltwater lagoon which is separated from the Mediterranean sea by a strip of land called La Manga.  This lagoon is very popular with families due to the lovely sandy beaches and warm, shallow waters making it very safe for children.  It is also very popular for boat trips and watersports.

The region has become famous for its numerous golf courses making it an ideal place to come and play in the winter months from countries like Belgium, Norway, Scandinavia, Sweden and the UK.  The golf courses also offer a range of properties to buy or rent.  These properties are very popular as they are in a gated community with 24hr security.

The major cities of Cartagena and Murcia are excellent places to visit with many beautiful cathedrals, museums, shops, bars and restaurants.  Cartagena is now a popular port of call for many cruise ships throughout the year.

The area has a good road infrastructure with buses and trains linking to other parts of the country.

The area has good local and international schools and excellent hospital facilities.

The cost of living is low and this area is classed as a very healthy place to live.

The main airport for this area at present is Murcia International Airport which is an international airport with many budget airlines using it. Alternatively Alicante airport is only one/one and a half hours drive away.

Work on the new Paramount theme park at Corvera is now starting and will be a major boost to the area and the tourism industry.
