Daily Mail Confirms Spain as Cheapest Holiday Destination In Europe
It seems cash-strapped Britons in search of a value holiday can count on the Costas once more as research reveals resort prices in Spain have dropped as much as 40 per cent in the last five years.
A range of typical holiday items, including drinks and suntan lotion, totted up to less than £38 , making it the second cheapest destination in a cost comparison survey by Post Office Travel Money.. This is great news for all my children friends as it means we can get more ice cream and sweets compared to last year.

Shortage of Spanish Property ?
Much has been made of Spain's property glut but it seems that in the Murcia region at least, falling prices are beginning to clear the market.
With prices of properties having been discounted by up to 50% and with very attractive lending terms such as 100% mortgages the amount of properties being snapped up by the savvy purchaser has increased dramatically.
Could this be the start of a shortage of property in established holiday home areas?
Ironically the answer is probably yes, although it may take some time to clear the less desirable properties.
As always the best located resorts and properties sell fast and this is what we are seeing in todays market.
The demand from British buyers has also increased which we believe is due to the more attractive exchange rate compared to 12 months ago. This had made the cost of properties another 15% less than a year ago.

Panda Bears Show Interest in Murcia, Spain.
We have had an enquiry from 2 Panda Bears in Edinburgh Zoo asking about properties in Murcia , Spain.
They have been complaining that the Chinese Estate Agents who arranged their purchase of a studio apartment in Edinburgh Zoo completly misled them.
" We were told that Edinburgh has a mild climate however when we arrived last week the winds were so strong that the roof was torn off our apartment, also it is so cold now that the neighbour Peter Polar Bear has had to put his heating on 24/7. I tried to escape down the M8 but was caught by the Traffic Police who escorted me back to Edinburgh. It has been a nightmare of a property purchase and I only wish we had used Chersun to help us purchase a property in Spain instead." commented Tian Tian.

Five Things Not To Do At Your Office Xmas Party.

Yes, the Office Xmas Party is a tradition unlike any other. This is the one time of year when you are likely to see a side of your co-workers you have never seen before . . . and probably won't want to see again.
Things not to do at your Xmas Office party.
1 Drinking too much festive punch, you know the exotic drink that has a large silver ladel in the bowl. This is normally a lethal concotion of strong spirits that can change a perfectly normal person into either a raging bull or a very annoying character who seems to think he or she is funny.
2 Do not believe that alcohol makes you invisible to the human eye , everyone can see you chatting up the young girl from reception.
3 Do not attempt to perform your MC Hammer dance routine or your Michael Jackson moonwalk on the bosses desk.
4 Do not stay in your own small clique of friends talking about your other workmates , leave your comfort zone and socialise and meet others you would not normally speak to.
5 Finally do not tell your Boss what you really think of them or ask them for a wage rise.
The Xmas party is there to be enjoyed by everyone and if you follow the above tips your chances of having a great time will increase.

Very Unusual New Year Traditions From Spain
Like most festivals in Spain, New Year's Eve, known as "Nochevieja" is usually a family affair which takes place at home.
Until midnight people tend to stay at home and on the stroke of midnight it is traditional to eat 12 grapes, one on each stroke of the clock to bring good luck for the New Year.
This tradition began when after a particularly big grape harvest the king of Spain decided to give everybody grapes to eat on New Year's Eve.
Can you imagine this tradition taking part in the UK , there would be people swallowing their false teeth, choking on their grapes and their faces covered with grape juice and skin.
Another Spanish tradition at New Year is that you have to wear red underwear. The red underwear should be given to you and is to be worn on New Year´s Eve; this is to bring good luck for the upcoming 12 months. All over the shopping centers, markets, and stores you will find red underwear being sold before New Year's.
The tradition dates back to the Middle Ages when it was prohibited to wear red as it was associated with witchcraft, the devil and blood. However the people would instead wear red underwear that couldn't be seen as they believed that red was a symbol of life especially during the dark winter months.
Just off to El Corte Ingles to buy the wife a new pair of red pants and bra , could be my lucky night.

It Never Rains In Spain ?
It does actually as you can see from the photo taken in Murcia High Street this week. We have been experiencing heavy flash floods this week . It is however important for this area of Spain to top up their water levels and the residents of Murcia can look forward to over 320 days of sunshine so a few drops of rain is no big hardship.
The plus point is that it will benefit the gardens, agricultural areas and also the golf courses.
Sales of umbrellas and welly boots have soared in the past week . Leading Murcia Umbrella Supplier Pedro Aquano commented " I am delighted that the rain has finally arrived , I had only sold one umbrella in the last 6 months and that was to an old lady who wanted to shade herself from the sun, I have now sold my complete stock of 20 umbrellas and profits are expected to soar this year.

Paramount Theme Park Latest News
Proyectos Emblematicos Murcianos (PREMURSA) presented a vision for an exciting new project yesterday morning in Madrid. The Project includes Parque Paramount Alhama de Murcia, the first Paramount theme park ever built in Europe, and a large cultural, business and leisure complex currently called the Lifestyle Center. The project will be located in Alhama de Murcia. His Excellency Mr. Ramon Luis Valcarcel, President of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and Michael Bartok, Executive Vice President of Paramount Licensing Inc. were in attendance at the event to demonstrate their support for the project.
The entire project budget is 1.1 billion Euros and it will have a major impact on regional tourism with more than 3 million visitors expected annually, comprised of both Spanish and international tourists. The theme park is sized at 550,000 square meters and an adjacent, state-of-the-art business and leisure complex is sized at 1,030,000 square meters.
The theme park and the LifeStyle Center will be promoted by Proyectos Emblematicos Murcianos S.A. (PREMURSA), established by Santa Monica Financial Services S.L., with 80%; Region de Murcia Turistica S.A. (REMUTURSA), with 10%; and Instituto de Fomento de la Region de Murcia (INFO), with the remaining 10%. PREMURSA has entered into an exclusive long-term license with Paramount Licensing Inc. for the development and operation of a theme park in Spain. While not an investor, Paramount is actively engaged with the developer in the design
of the park.
"Paramount chose the Region of Murcia for this project because of the exceptional qualities that make it a popular tourist destination. The support from the regional and local governments as well as PREMURSA is remarkable and we look forward to creating a world-class destination," said Michael Bartok.
This project, which is one of the pillars of the development strategy of the Murcian Region, will generate a total of 22,600 jobs through direct and indirect employment (16,500 during the construction phase and 6,100 during the operation).
Jesus Samper emphasized the certainty of the feasibility of the project, with great confidence in both public and private profitability. "The project, will become, without a doubt, the development engine of the regional and local economy and will position the Murcian Region as a world tourist destination.
"Alhama de Murcia has been chosen for the development of the first Paramount Themed Park in Europe because of its outstanding and unique geographic, historic and climatic characteristics. The region is ideal for many reasons, including its 300 sunny days per year, its beaches less than 30 minutes away, its amazing natural and cultural heritage, and its outstanding transportation infrastructure. Two airports, the new International Airport of the Region of Murcia (opening estimated for 2012) and San Javier Airport will provide easy access by air and there is also an excellent road network between Madrid and the Mediterranean area. A new High Speed Train line is expected to open in 2014 connecting Murcia with the main Spanish capitals. Locally, Alhama de Murcia is perfectly positioned between the main cities of the Region (Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca), at a distance of less than 50 Km. by highway," explained Jesus Samper.
The first Paramount park in Europe Parque Paramount Alhama de Murcia, will become a major destination attraction with a completely immersive theme park that brings the legendary films of Paramount to life.
The park, designed with exciting state-of-the-art technologies, will include over 30 attractions designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of ages and interests. There will also be 2 themed hotels located within the park's boundaries as well as themed stores and restaurants that will be based on Paramount properties. This story-driven park will quickly become one of the most compelling theme parks in Europe.
Paramount Promenade provides a grand entrance to the experience and serves as the main artery through the park.
In addition to an enticing collection of retail and restaurant offerings, this is where Paramount Live, a live-stage-spectacular will be found.
The rest of the park is divided into 4 themed areas that transport visitors into compelling scenes from Paramount movies: Adventure City is where action fans will experience the most vivid and exciting scenes from movies such as Mission: Impossible; Rango's West is based on the hit film Rango and it includes Rango 4D, a Ragin' River Rapids ride and the Spirit of the West Mine Coaster; Woodland Fantasy will become the favorite place for children, as they are invited to sharpen their magic skills at the Stardust Wizard's Workshop and embark on an interactive dark ride adventure at the Spiderwick Chronicles; finally, Plaza Futura will be dedicated to thrilling and other-wordly science fiction experiences based on Paramount films such as Star Trek.
LifeStyle Center, a strategic center for business, cultural and leisure activities.
Next to the theme park is the LifeStyle Center, a complex that will become a core center for the business, cultural and leisure activity of the area throughout the year. The LifeStyle Center will include top-quality infrastructure, excellent hotels, restaurants, and leisure activities delivered at such a high level that is certain to become an economic engine for the Region of Murcia.
The Lifestyle Center can be divided into 3 main areas: hotel complex, leisure area and business area. The hotel complex will include 7 hotels, with service and styles broad enough to accommodate leisure and business travelers. Four of the hotels will be 3-star hotels; two will be 4-stars hotels, with a convention area, with particular appeal for business travelers and event hostings; and finally, a 5-star hotel for the most demanding clientele. The 5-star hotel will include a casino, adding an attractive nightlife component to the LifeStyle Center.
Leisure will be another appealing part of this complex. The commercial area will be integrated into a Street Mall of 150,000 m^2; where the restaurant and night leisure area will include space for night clubs and bars. In addition, the LifeStyle Center will allow the exhibition of major cultural events in its auditorium, exhibition room and large convention area -- a collection of venues and high-level infrastructure that is not currently offered in Murcia.
These new projects complete the major business and cultural offer of the LifeStyle Center and will establish it as an urban center designed to meet all visitor needs.
Adjacent to the Lifestyle Center, the commercial area will include a state-of-the-art business complex that will allow the development of a true financial hub for the region.
In order to facilitate transportation between the park and the rest of the
In order to facilitate transportation between the park and the rest of the complex, the project will have a network of ecological vehicles. In addition to providing easy circulation, the transportation system will preserve the environment by supporting sustainable energy technology.
In short, the LifeStyle Center will become an important asset for economic, cultural and leisure development in Spain and will also serve as a perfect neighbor for a unique, world-class theme park.
The opening of Parque Paramount Alhama de Murcia is projected to take place in spring, 2015, along with the first phase of the LifeStyle Center.

Last Bull Fight Staged in Catalonia.
Spain's top matador and two colleagues were carried out on the crowd's shoulders after the last bullfight to be held in Barcelona on Sunday.
But the victory belonged to opponents of the "corrida", who had successfully campaigned for the emblematic Spanish spectacle to be banned in the Catalonia region.
It was a day of high emotion in the separatist-inclined Catalan capital, Spain's second city .All 20,000 seats in the historic La Monumental arena were sold out in advance and touts were charging 1,600 euros for tickets, three times the face value of the top price. The event marked an impassioned debate over bullfighting which has highlighed political, cultural and economic divisions in modern Spain.
Fans, a number of whom had come from abroad, lamented the ban and said it was stifling tradition and people's rights.
"This is like a dictatorship. We don't do anything wrong to anyone and we are banned from having a 300 year-old show,"Josep Navarro, 60, a longtime fan.
As far as the bulls are concerned there has been a increase in enquiries from bulls around Spain who are keen to relocate to the Catalonia region.
" We have seen the number of enquiries soar since sunday and we have enquiries from bulls are far south as Malaga " confirmed Juan Torres of top Bull Estate Agent Redrag Properties.

San Javier Airport to Close Once New International Airport In Murcia Opens March 2012
It was announced yesterday that San Javier Airport , Murcia will close to commercial flights once the new International Airport at Corvera , Murcia opens in March 2012 .
The San Javier airport will revert back to a military airport and unless you have an Apache helicopter or a Tornado Jet you will no longer be able to fly into San Javier.
It is rumoured that Ryanair are considering offering parachute flights into a San Javier Airport although the medical insurance is proving to be too expensive
|
| Funny Parachute Landing |
On a more serious note it will benefit the area of Murcia by having only one International airport and not two airports only 35km from each other.
The employees of San Javier Airport will be transferred to the new airport and a compensation package of 70 million euros will be paid to the Owners of San Javier Airport.
The current airlines using San Javier will transfer operations to Corvera International.
I am sure that once the International airport opens the area will benefit from more flights and importantly more visitors to Murcia who may be interested in buying property in Murcia.

Holiday Visitors To Spain Tops 40 Million
Spain received almost 40 million international tourists in the first eight months of the year, a 7.8% increase compared to the same period of last year, according to the Frontur survey by the Institute for Tourism Studies.
Spain beat an all-time record with 7.64 million international tourists in August. It is the highest monthly entrance of international tourists since Frontur statistics were first compiled in 1995.
In August, there was a 16.7% increase of US tourists, a 12.3% increase of German tourists, and a 10.5% increase of Italian tourists.
Commentary
The Spanish economy has not been seeing many positive economic headlines lately. However the above positive news will benefit the Spanish economy and the manufacturers of sombreros and stuffed donkeys have seen a marked increase in sales due to the British taking back holiday souvenirs.

CAM BANK BAIL OUT
Spanish savings bank Caja de Ahorros del Mediterraneo (CAM) secured EU regulatory approval on Monday for 5.8 billion euros ($8.3 billion) in state aid and must submit a restructuring plan within six months.
State-backed bank restructuring fund FROB will provide a 2.8 billion euro capital injection to CAM, one of five Spanish banks which this month failed a European Banking Authority stress test.
The fund will also give CAM a 3 billion euro liquidity facility, the European Commission said.
FROB will receive shares in CAM in exchange and will take over management of the bank until a buyer is found.
Spain wants to halve the number of unlisted regional banks and is using FROB to help the stronger savings banks take over the weaker ones.
"The measures are limited in time and Spain has committed to submit a restructuring plan within six months," the European Commission said in a statement.
Previous overhauls by other aided banks approved by the Commission have included a sharp reduction in balance sheet, an acquisition ban, and fair burden-sharing by shareholders and some bondholders.
CAM, based in the eastern region of Alicante was one of the major backers for the Polaris World Golf Resorts.

Five Top Tips If Visiting Spain In August
The month of August is when Spain closes down for the summer holidays , I have below 5 tips if you are visiting Spain in August.
1 Avoid all supermarkets between the hours of 7pm -9pm , this is when the Spanish go shopping and unless you have full body armour the local supermarket is a dangerous place to visit.
2 Best to go to the beaches between 2pm -5pm as generally all the locals will be leaving for lunch and a siesta. It is advisable to put on Factor 70 sun lotion as this is clearly the hottest part of the day.
3 Do not buy anything on the beach from the Sales Represenative of the major fashion brands such as Armani,Louis Vouitten, Rolex Watches and Boss as I believe the items may be fakes. I bought a Rolex and it broke after 3 hours.
4 Having 10 pints of San Miguel will not quench your thirst it will however turn you into a dehydrated fighting machine who quickly loses friends.
5 If you have to visit any of the major cities take plenty of water as the temperatures can be in excess of 100 degrees. You may also notice that their are no locals around as most are not that stupid to stay in the city in August and prefer the cooler weather by the coast.

Greetings!
It seems to be that whenever Spain is mentioned in the national press nowadays it is all bad news.

As you will see from the headlines below it is not all bad.

Arab Investors head for Murcia
Murcia has been chosen to host the Arab Investment Forum, one of the single most important investment meetings of the year with over 70% of the Arab world's investment strength gathering for 2 days of networking and discussion. An array of Spain and the Middle East's most significant business leaders, government ministers, banks, hedge funds, financial institutions and sovereign wealth funds will be in attendance to participate in several structured sessions of discussion.
Salvador Marín, Regional Minister of Universities, Business and Research in Murcia said the main objective of the forum would be to "promote investment and the potential of the region"
Murcia has been selected specifically for its economic importance. It has a strong business sector, growing tourism and real-estate sectors and "has many future investment possibilities" according to one of the event's organisers, Elias Baroudi, Deputy Director-General of the Al - Itkissad Wal-Aamal group.
Co-Director of the Forum, Mario Armero explained that Murcia was an ideal choice because "the investor wants is to invest in reform-minded countries" and not in "stagnant regions, where there is no dynamism". Mr Armero went on to explain that he believes in Murcia "things are happening for years and we have an important infrastructure sector - roads, logistical installations and airports - invest".
Pedro Alberto Cruz, Regional Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Region of Murcia said the forum is a "historic opportunity for the region because never before in Spain has an event of such importance been implemented" adding the event had been organized by the "two worlds" of the Spain and the Middle East which is "one of the major economic centres today".
This event is the second in recent weeks in which there has been shared investment sentiment between Spain and the Middle East. On the 25th May, the real estate arm of one of Spain's largest banks travelled to Dubai to hold an investment seminar. The seminar showcased a range of properties and exclusive asset packages and which gained considerable interest from Dubai's investors.
The Arab Investment Forum will be held in the Intercontinental Hotel in La Torre Golf resort, Murcia on the 28th and 29th of June.

SUNBURN SEASON STARTS - TAKE CARE
With the weather starting to hot up and the sun rays getting stronger it is important to avoid the popular self-inflicted pain of sunburn.
Did you know that over two million people are diagnosed with skin cancer every year? While there are many reasons for the diagnosis of skin cancer, the statistics would certainly decrease if people did two very important things:
1.Protect their Skin
2.Nourish Their Skin
With over 50 million Europeans getting sunburned on at least one occasion this year, there is no doubt that we can do a better job protecting our skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun.
If you were to see a dried raisin, you would instantly know that the sun and heat had simply sucked all the vibrancy and radiance from that beautiful, juicy grape.
The sun can have the same effect on your skin. Therefore you need to do two very important things for your skin internally.
Drink Lots of Water: Water helps keeps your cells full, helps them regenerate (regrow properly) and helps to flush all the free radicals that are caused by sun damage.

Lorca Earthquake - Real Madrid to play in benefit match in Murcia
Real Madrid published a communique on Sunday in which the club confirmed that it would be playing a friendly game on Wednesday night to raise funds for the earthquake hit town of Lorca.
Lorca was hit by two earthquakes on Wednesday, which claimed 11 lives and caused extensive damage to the town of 90,000 inhabitants in the Community of Murcia in South-East Spain.
Around 4,000 inhabitants are currently living in an encampment of tents erected by the Spanish military, who have 600 troops in the town to help with the recovery and it is estimated that around 50 percent of the buildings in Lorca have been damaged by the quakes.
To help raise funds to help the victims, Real Madrid will face a combined 11 from the Murcia Region in the Nuevo Condomina Stadium in Murcia at 8 p.m. local time next Wednesday. The Murcia side will be coached by former Real Madrid player and Spain national team coach, Jose Antonio Camacho.
"Real Madrid and a selection of players from the Murcia region will play a game to benefit the victims of the Lorca earthquakes. The Cultural and Tourism office of the Region of Murcia has accepted Real Madrid's proposal. The Real Madrid players will visit the areas most affected before the game so they can see first hand the damage caused by the earthquakes," confirmed the Real Madrid website.
The golf resorts of Murcia have not been affected by the earthquake as most are located about 1 hour away from the town of Lorca.

Spanish Government hit the UK with Property Roadshows
The Spanish Government led by development minister, Jose Blanco, and housing secretary Beatriz Corredor, last week kicked off an international holiday home roadshow, in an effort to woo buyers back to its flagging property market.
The tour will be doing the European rounds, starting in the UK, attempting to bolster the image of the Spanish property market and attract foreign investors. UK investors currently represent more than one-third of foreign investors in Spanish Property.
The tour will then move on to the Netherlands, France, Germany, Sweden and Russia.
Spain's property market is working to overcome the scandal when thousands of buyers were sold homes by developers that they later discovered they had no legal right to. Various actions groups are now petitioning for the recovery of deposits paid by buyers to Spanish banks which are refusing to return their money. Blanco, however, says these cases represent less than 1% of holiday homes purchased and that the Government is looking to compensate these buyers on a case-by-case basis.
There are currently around 680,000 empty holiday homes in Spain thanks to the huge over-development of new build homes during the property boom - and around 400,000 of these are concentrated in the country's coastal regions.
Prior to the tour Jose Blanco said he felt this was an "ideal time" for buyers to invest in Spanish Property and also said that "the Spanish real estate sector is beginning to see a reduction in residential housing stock and a consequent price alignment".

Disposable Barbecues Not What To Do.
The barbecue season has started with the weather here in Murcia providing great barbecue conditions.
Unfortunately for some people barbecuing can cause distress and financial hardship as one of our clients confirmed last week.
The happy couple having just purchased a brand new SAAB convertible decided to purchase one of the disposable barbecues and head for the country in their new car to have a barbecue .
After they had finished their barbecue they decided to go for a walk, upon returning they had nowhere to dispose of the used barbecue. After agreeing that the bbq was completely out they put the used bbq in the boot of their new SAAB car and headed back home.
A few miles down the road they smelt burning and they could see smoke coming from the boot of their car ,suddenly the car came to a halt as the fire in the boot of the car had burnt through the electrics.
They could only stand by the roadside and watch their beautiful new car go up in flames. Did they get some stick from their friends when news started to spread through their village about their mishap, there was even a comment "What does SAAB stand for - Smokes After A Barbecue."
I hope that the above is a warning to you all to dispose of any barbecues in a cautious manner.

CHARITY CLOWNS CHEER UP KIDS
I was very fortunate last week to visit a very worthwhile Charity called www.pupaclown.com . This Charity was established in 1998 and the clowns go to the local hospitals to entertain the children and put a smile back on their faces.
The Charity has now raised enough money to have Europes only Theatre specifically designed for children. The Theatre in the heart of the Murcia City has been adapted to accommodate children who have all disabilities . I was particularly impressed by the amount of detail and thought that has gone into the layout of the Theatre. There is an area where bed bound children can watch the clowns perform along with their parents. A special area for blind children to listen to the entertainment and another area with enhanced sound for the hearing impaired.
The Charity is now aiming to raise 300,000 euros to build a workshop where the children can produce their own films , produce music and perform arts.
We have chosen to support Pupa Clowns and we will make a further donation to the Charity when any clients purchase a property through Chersun.

However I am glad to confirm that there is a lot of positive news especially from the Murcia region of Spain where we are based.
